Review: Benefit Primers!

Recently I bought Benefit's "That Gal" brightening face primer and Lemon Aid colour correcting eyelid primer. I've always loved Benefit's quirky packaging and amazing products, so couldn't resist snapping these up, despite their hefty price tag ("That Gal" is £21.50 and Lemon Aid is £16.50)! Primers have interested me for a while, but these are the first primers I've bought. I wanted to get Sleek's i-Divine Primer Palette but didn't think I'd need all the different colours, so Benefit it was! To show you all how they work and whether they're worth you forking out for them, I've created a make-up look on my sister and tested the primers on a trip to the cinema to see whether her foundation and eye make-up stays put! After all, that's what primers are made to do - create the perfect base for your make-up so that it stays looking radiant and you stay looking polished all day long!

First, let's start with the base.

Isn't the packaging cute?! It's a really interesting hexagonal-shaped box that has a few sweet quotes on it, such as "smooth on a happy face", "the pretty pink primer" and "go from dull to darling" which I thought were adorable! So for the packaging, a big thumbs up from me! :)

This is what the tube looks like. The white bit at the bottom is to twist so that the product comes out of the top, which looks like this:

It's helpful as it doesn't let out too much product at once. With the price that comes with the primer you don't want to use it all up too quickly!! Saying that, less is more with "That Gal" - it doesn't take a lot for your face to look fresh and bright!

Now, on to my sister's cinema make-up look! I wanted to create something pretty but not too OTT as obviously no-one sees you in the cinema :p

Doesn't her skin look perfect! That's partly due to "That Gal" creating a perfect base for the foundation to go on to, and partly because "That Gal" makes your skin glow beautifully! So as for how it looks initially, it definitely 'brightens' and evens out the skin tone. You're supposed to apply the primer with your fingers in upwards strokes all over the face, which brings out all the natural colours in your skin. This technique gives the same effect as when you pinch your cheeks to make them rosy! :)

Here's all the products I used to create the look:

From L-R: Nivea Soft Intensive Moisturising Cream, Benefit "That Gal" Brightening Face Primer, Benefit 'Big Beautiful Eyes' Eye Contour Kit, MaxFactor 'Miracle Touch Liquid Illusion' Foundation in Golden (Shade 75), Benefit 'Lemon Aid' Colour Correcting Eyelid Primer, Benefit '10' Palette, Max Factor 'Creme Puff' Powder in Medium Beige (Shade 41), L'Oreal 'Telescopic' Mascara in Carbon Black, Bourjois 'Volume Clubbing' Mascara in Ultra Black

Now on to the 'Lemon Aid' colour correcting eyelid primer which I used to keep my sister's eye make-up in place.

As you all know, eye make-up is notorious for rubbing off throughout the day and seeping in to the lines in your eyelid, which isn't a good look! With the amount of blinking and eye-watering we do, it's no surprise that eye make-up just doesn't stay, which is where 'Lemon Aid' comes in! On the packaging it says, "Wake up your eyelids with this warm yellow correcting cream. It helps to hide redness & discolouration on your eyelids. In a snap, eyes look refreshed, frisky and ready for fun." Already the product sounds perfect! This is what the packaging looks like:

I love the fact that it's called 'Lemon Aid'! How cute! Also, inside the opening at the top it says "Turn your frown upside down!" which never fails to make me smile :)

Inside there's a little mirror for on-the-go make-up fixes which is handy! The product itself needs to be warmed up with your fingertip and then patted on to your eyelids and blended. You can wear it alone as it makes your eyes dazzle and look super fresh, but it also works well under eyeshadow.

~RESULTS!~

Here's what my sister's face looked like when she came back from the cinema.

Her face looks exactly the same as when she went out, which means "That Gal" worked! There's no signs of the foundation having rubbed off and her skin is still glowing :) So, "That Gal" gets an all-round thumbs up! Woo! Now on to the eyes...

Again, still as perfect as before! 'Lemon Aid' also gets a massive thumbs up! Yay!

Overall, both Benefit primers have worked extremely well, and I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to keep their freshly made-up face all day long! However, the price is the one negative, but saving up for these beauties is worth it in the end :)
